Register as a PDI (Potential Driving Instructor).

Once you have received your CRB Disclosure Number, you may now register as a PDI (Potential Driving Instructor) and receive your Personal Reference Number (PRN) which you will need to book your tests.

Please note you must now register as a PDI within 6 months or your CRB will expire.

To do this, you can apply by post or online.

• To apply by post, complete your ADI3 and return to DVSA address on form.

• Or apply online at https://www.gov.uk/apply-to-become-a-driving-instructor whereby you will need:

• your driving licence number

• your CRB Disclosure Number and the date it was produced (unless you’ve been told not to get one yet)

• details of any motoring or non-motoring offences, and disqualifications from driving or of any court cases being brought against you

The DVSA will write to confirm your registration and PRN.

This whole process can take about 4-6 weeks and once you have your DVSA PRN (personal reference number) you are in a position to book ADI Part 1 test.
